How Do You Hang A Heavy Mirror With D Rings?
To hold a large mirror in place without drilling holes in the wall, buy an inexpensive tension rod and attach both ends to the back of the mirror with d-rings. D-rings are made of metal and have a loop on one end that can be attached to a screw or nail. The other end has an open circle that you push onto a hook.
You can buy d-rings at a hardware store or a home center. You’ll find them near the curtain and drapery hardware — look for the curtain clips.
A tension rod is basically a metal or plastic wire that’s curved at the top like an upside-down bow tie. A tension rod is long enough to wrap around your mirror frame, and it holds your mirror in place at the top of the wall.
If you’re hanging a heavy mirror on plasterboard, use drywall anchors. These are anchors that secure the rod into the wall without causing cracks or holes. They usually have two parts: hook on one end, and screw on the other.
Use a drill to make a hole in the wall where you want to hang your mirror. Then install the anchor in this hole. Once it’s in place, push the pointed end of the rod into this hook.
If you’ll be hanging your mirror over a window or door, make sure there’s an existing stud behind it — otherwise, you’ll need to find an alternative type of anchor.

DIY How To Hang A Heavy Mirror With D Rings Without Wire
This is the first step in the process of hanging a heavy mirror in your home without the use of wire. We had to take down a tent wall that was holding up the living room that we had in our old apartment. We decided to repurpose the tent wall into a beautiful mirror using D-rings from Home Depot and some chain.
In case you’re unfamiliar with how to hang a heavy mirror using D rings, lets illustrate this technique for you. The best way to hang a large mirror fast is to create a “frame” of sorts around it by creating a rectangle shape with the D rings. These will be attached together using chain and hooks that we’ll show you later on in this article.
The first thing you’ll want to do is take the D rings to your mirror. They won’t fit perfectly but they will sit on the corners of the mirror. You will also want to screw in hooks on the back of your mirror for added support and attachment. This relieves a lot of stress when hanging a heavy mirror using this method, as you don’t have to rely solely on the D ring hooks.
Here’s what it looks like when we attached our D rings with little screws:
Now that we have our D ring frames attached to our mirror, it’s time to decide how wide we want our chain and hooks that will be used for hanging.
