Why Do They Call It A Spud Wrench?
It is called a spud wrench because it is shaped like the Irish tool used to dig potatoes. There is also a certain part of a job that plumbers referred to as digging spuds out.

It is a tool with steel heads and wooden handles. Usually for hickory or ash. Sometimes they are more dish shaped and sharpened on three sides.
