Here are a few quick ideas for your living room. – What to do with a blank wall: frame your favorite photo or work of art in a nice, simple frame. Or instead of hanging anything on the wall, try adding some plants!
– How to decorate your coffee table: stow the magazines in a nice wicker basket, and if you have any books that don’t fit on shelves, store them inside. Add some candles to create the perfect atmosphere.
– Let there be light! Invest in lamps and lighting fixtures for a cosy ambiance. And don’t forget about overhead lighting too! Hang pretty lamps from your ceiling for an elegant touch.
– Add some color! Use rugs, poufs and throw pillows to create a pattern or color on the floor. And don’t forget prints or artwork on your walls.
– Another way to add color is with furniture: instead of purchasing new furniture, look at thrift stores for anything that catches your eye. Reupholster it if necessary, and have fun decorating! – Don’t forget to keep everything organized! Label cabinets and use hooks for easy access to coats, scarves and hats. You may also want a nice stack of baskets for any toys, books or other clutter in the living room.
– Use a bookshelf to store your DVDs and CDs.
– If you’re looking to add a coffee table, look for something that’s sturdy and can also serve as seating if needed.
– And if you’re planning on having people over, make sure your home is ready for them! Clean up clutter, open the curtains or blinds and make sure everyone has a place to sit. Have everything laid out before anyone arrives, so you can relax and enjoy the company of your friends!
Here are some simple furniture + design ideas for your living room…
Chunky knit blanket
It doesn’t matter if you’re laying on a couch made of concrete, a chunky knit blanket can turn any room into a cozy retreat. They’re a bit pricey (upwards of $300 for a king-sized one), but it’s sure to keep you comfy all winter long.

Giant star light
A sort of contemporary take on the chandelier, these giant star lights are a way to illuminate your room with style. They look great as hanging decorations by themselves, but they’re especially magical at night time when they’re the only light in the room!
The large ones are quite expensive, but Wayfair sells a slightly smaller model for only $20.

Tribal print rug
These can add a bit of exotic flair to an otherwise bland home. They look just as stylish in a traditional New England cottage as they do in a bohemian apartment loft. So versatile!
I like this ivory on beige design from Tiwari: https://www.amazon.com/Tiwari-Home-Tribal-Pattern-Rectangular/dp/B07TSTNF82
Burnt orange/earth tones sectional
I’d love to have this one in my house. With its stylish midcentury shape and that amazing burnt orange upholstery, sitting on it feels like it’s 1971 and I’m hanging out with the Rolling Stones after a show.
Wayfair comes through again with an affordable version of this couch:

Candle-glow wall sconce
The wall sconce is back in fashion, and I’m totally here for it! Although I wouldn’t recommend using real candleholders (too dangerous), there are plenty of great lightbulb sconces out there.
I actually just came across these ones at Urban Outfitters that I love. They’re kind of like Ray Eames meets Edgar Allen Poe: https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/anders-wall-sconce-accessory?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=040

Which Colour is best for living room?
You want your living room to be multifunctional, so you need to make it feel welcoming and inviting for guests and family. In an effort at making every day life that much more comfortable, you’ve created the perfect space for getting a bit of shut-eye on the weekends. But what is trending in living rooms?
What’s trending in living rooms?
In terms of what color scheme is best for the living room, many people are choosing warmer colors based on their aesthetic preferences. For instance, according to Houzz users in Minnesota or Texas where it’s typically colder during winter months like December and January respectively. The warmer colors are reminiscent of comfort when they’re feeling chilly inside their home which is additionally heated by a fireplace or other heater.
In addition, an example of a trend that is developing in living rooms is using more subtle tones in greens, blues, tans and grays. Naturally, it’s easier to create the appearance of a warm palette when the colors are quiet and subdued as opposed to being intense and lively. The muted shades also go along with softer furnishings such as fabric furniture in natural hues and wooden accoutrements like light furniture and drapes.
In general, you can choose between “complementary” colors that are equally intense shades or “opposites” where they’re not only different but also complements – again making it easier to create an inviting ambiance for your guests and family members.
For example, in terms of colors for the living room which are “opposites”, you can choose between warm and pleasant tones like green and blue or vibrant and bright shades like orange and yellow. Or, you can go with colder tones of a more neutral nature that are less intense or vibrant but still have complementary aspects. They include purple, brown, green and gray.
In addition, the majority of people prefer neutral colors that have muted tones but also have opposing aspects to them as well – such as black on white contrast or white on black contrast.
For example, black on white contrast can be contrasted a bit with a solid white sofa that complements the overall color scheme. Another idea is to use the opposite of what black and white are in order to create some contrast like pairing an off-white rug with dark floors. In terms of lighting and lighting schemes, you can choose among “warm” or “cool” tones depending upon how you want your space to feel.
In general, warm tones include reds such as burgundy or maroon and browns such as taupe and beige while cool tones include blues such as navy or light blue (as well as grays) and whites such as cream or ivory.
The living room, however, is not the only place where you can use what are considered to be “trends”. Many people are applying what they’ve learned from the trends to other rooms in their homes as well. Trendy colors include blue/green/yellow/red depending on your preferences. It is also important to note that the décor of a room should match its function as well which means that if you prefer casual living environments, then you should incorporate those designs in your décor choices.
For example, in a living room that’s intended to be used as a place for family members to gather and retreat from the world, you may want to choose furniture that is comfortable for everyone whether they’re sitting down or lounging on the couch. You can also consider using light colors if you plan on being inside most of the time but don’t want a dull room.
Trendy décor can also be applied to small spaces such as bathrooms and bedrooms like a bold yellow wall with white curtains, off-white walls with black framed prints or even colorful rugs and accessories will make small rooms feel larger than they really are.
